📖About

Final Fantasy IV shipped in the US in 1991 under the title Final Fantasy II, since the earlier numbered entries hadn't been localized yet — but it's the true fourth game in the series, and the one that introduced the Active Time Battle system that would define Final Fantasy combat for the rest of the SNES and PlayStation eras. Turns no longer waited politely; enemies could act while the player was still deciding, and speed stats suddenly mattered.

The story follows Cecil Harvey, a Dark Knight who abandons his order after being ordered to slaughter innocents, and his slow redemption into a Paladin alongside a rotating cast that includes his childhood friend Kain, the summoner Rydia, and engineer Cid. It leaned harder into character drama than its predecessors — permanent character deaths, betrayals, and a genuinely large ensemble cast that trades in and out of the party as the plot demands.
