About
Pokemon Crystal is the enhanced third version of the Johto generation, built around Suicune, the Aurora Pokemon, and its own storyline chasing the legendary beast across Johto rather than encountering it once. Crystal was the first mainline Pokemon game to let players choose a female protagonist from the start, and the first to give every Pokemon animated front sprites instead of static art.
On top of Gold and Silver's day/night cycle, breeding, and held items, Crystal adds the Battle Tower for facing off against a gauntlet of trainers with rental teams, plus quality-of-life tweaks to move tutors and a few event changes exclusive to this version. Like its predecessors, Crystal's postgame opens the entire original Kanto region for a second playthrough after the Johto League.
