Pokemon Red is where the entire series started — the original Kanto adventure that introduced all 151 Pokemon, gym badges, and the goal of becoming Champion while filling out the Pokedex. The journey from Pallet Town through Viridian Forest, Mt. Moon, and eight gyms to the Indigo Plateau set the structural template every mainline Pokemon game has followed since.
Beyond the main story, Red hides Mewtwo, a genetically engineered legendary, deep within the Cerulean Cave postgame area, alongside the option to catch the three legendary birds — Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres — scattered across Kanto's more remote corners. Trading with a Blue cartridge (or, on Delta, simply loading both ROMs) is the only way to complete the full 151-entry Pokedex, since several species are version-exclusive.
