Banjo-Kazooie opens with the witch Gruntilda kidnapping Banjo's sister Tooty to steal her beauty, sending the honey bear and his backpack-dwelling bird partner Kazooie up Spiral Mountain and into Gruntilda's Lair — a hub world that branches into nine themed worlds, each hiding one hundred musical notes and up to ten golden Jiggy puzzle-piece tokens.
Kazooie's moveset does most of the heavy lifting: pecking, a flutter jump, an egg-shooting attack, and a talon-trot sprint that Banjo alone can't match, while later worlds add wading, climbing, and even a shock-spring pad to reach previously blocked Jiggies. Mumbo Jumbo's transformation magic turns Banjo into a termite, a pumpkin, a crocodile, or a walrus at set points, each disguise built to solve one specific world's obstacles.
