Mega Man 2 is the entry most players point to when they say the series peaked early. Eight Robot Masters instead of six, a soundtrack (Dr. Wily Stage 1, Wood Man, Flash Man) that's still remixed constantly today, and a weapon roster where nearly every pickup is genuinely useful — Metal Blade alone is famous for trivializing half the game's bosses because of how cheap and versatile it is.
The Item cards — a jetpack platform, ladder-shooting block, and mine-cart platform — added the first real puzzle-platforming layer to the series, particularly in Heat Man's stage where a wrong Item choice can strand you. Difficulty selection (Normal/Difficult) also debuted here, letting newer players get through Wily's fortress without the merciless spike the original demanded.
