Pokemon Emerald is the third and definitive version of the Hoenn generation, combining the separate Team Magma and Team Aqua storylines from Ruby and Sapphire into a single game where both criminal teams are active at once. Rayquaza takes center stage as the legendary that keeps their conflict over Groudon and Kyogre in check.

Emerald's biggest addition over Ruby/Sapphire is the post-game Battle Frontier — seven distinct facilities that replace the old Elite Four rematch grind with proper competitive battle formats, plus the ability to catch every version-exclusive legendary from the generation in one cartridge.
