Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time is the pair version to Explorers of Darkness, launched together as the original DS entries in the Mystery Dungeon spin-off line before Explorers of Sky arrived as an enhanced third version. The game opens with a personality quiz that assigns your player character's species, then pairs you with a partner Pokemon to form a rescue team and take on procedurally generated dungeons floor by floor.

Time and Darkness share the same main story — uncovering a plot tied to a planet-wide paralysis and a looming threat to the future — but differ in which Pokemon appear as version-exclusive team recruits and which side dungeons are accessible without trading. Combat plays out on a grid, turn-based and tile-based, closer to a classic roguelike than a typical Pokemon battle screen, with real stakes if your whole team faints deep in a dungeon.
