Advance Wars: Dual Strike is the series' first DS entry, and it uses both screens to run bigger battles than the GBA games ever could — the top screen tracks the full map while the bottom handles unit orders, letting fights sprawl across terrain that used to require constant scrolling. The turn-based capture-and-conquer formula is unchanged: build infantry, tanks and aircraft, grab enemy properties, and out-maneuver the opposing CO's army.
The big new mechanic is the Tag Team system — you pick two COs per match instead of one, swap the active commander mid-battle, and build up a shared power gauge that unlocks a devastating Tag Break attack when both COs' Super CO Powers are ready at once. Clearing the campaign against the Black Hole Army also unlocks War Room and Combat maps for endless replay, along with data from the original Advance Wars and Black Hole Rising to revisit their armies on DS hardware.
