Mega Man X

Mega Man X reboots the classic Blue Bomber formula for the 16-bit era, swapping Mega Man for X — a reploid built by Dr. Light with the capacity for free will. Thirty years after being sealed away, X is awakened into a world where reploids are turning hostile under the mysterious Sigma, and it falls to X (with backup from the swordsman Zero) to hunt down eight Maverick bosses in any order across a fully explorable stage select.

The series-defining moves debut here: a chargeable dash that doubles as an air dodge, wall-jumping that opens up vertical routes classic Mega Man never had, and hidden capsules scattered through each stage that grant Dr. Light's armor upgrades — better buster shots, a leg dash, a head that reveals hidden items, and a body that halves incoming damage. Finding all four before the Sigma fortress run changes the whole back half of the game.
